This study is based on I Samuel 8:1-3
And it came to pass, when Samuel was old, that he made his sons judges over Israel.
Now the name of his firstborn was Joel; and the name of his second, Abiah: they were judges in Beersheba.
And his sons walked not in his ways, but turned aside after lucre, and took bribes, and perverted judgment.
Samuel had faithfully served the land of Israel for many years, but now he was getting old and tired. The days when Samuel could easily trek from one end of Israel to another were past. Samuel was nearing the age when death would permanently remove the faithful sentinel from his post, and when it did what would become of the people he had spent his life serving? What would become of the reforms in the church he had fought so hard for?
